Welcome!

Hello students and parents!

Welcome to our 8th Grade U.S. History website, your go-to spot for everything we’ll be learning and exploring this year. Here, you’ll find class updates, assignments, resources, and fun ways to connect with the incredible story of America, from its earliest peoples to the challenges and triumphs that shaped the nation we know today.

Students, this is your space to stay organized and up-to-date with what is going on in our class. You’ll be able to check up on the lessons we are currently on, review helpful study materials, and even find extra resources to deepen your understanding.

Parents, this site is designed to keep you in the loop. You’ll find important announcements, reminders, and a clear view of what your students are working on each week. My goal is to make sure you feel connected to our classroom and the journey we’re taking together.

History is more than dates and facts—it’s the story of people, ideas, and decisions that still shape our lives today. I’m thrilled to explore it with you this year, and I look forward to seeing all the curiosity and creativity you bring to our class.

Thank you for visiting, and here’s to an amazing year of learning!

Coach Brown

Week 10 At a Glance

Here is to the start of a good 2nd Quarter! Overall, all the classes have an average of 80+% as overall grades. This tells me that we are on a good track to learn this information. This excites me because us spending the majority of this quarter focusing on the building blocks of America. There will be some changes going forward, but it shouldn’t hurt us overall.

Monday, October 13th– No School

Tuesday, October 14th– Start Chapter 7: The American Revolution. Assign Week 10 Assignment

Wednesday, October 15th– Continue Chapter 7: The American Revolution

Thursday, October 16th– Finish Chapter 7: The American Revolution

Friday, October 17th– Review/Quiz over Chapter 7: The American Revolution. Assign the Chapter 7 STAAR Blitz Activity (Due Before Class on Monday)

Listening to your advice and critiques, here is what may change going forward from here:

  • STAAR Blitzes
    • Reading Guides will be done in groups. Understand that this WONT take away from lecture sessions
    • They will be extended to work on over the weekend. This will give you more time to work on them; however, the earlier you finish them, the more you can enjoy your weekend.
    • Retakes will be done by chapter. I will open up Flex sessions to allow you all to retake a quiz the week after the corresponding chapter. For example, If we cover Chapter 7 in Week 10, the Retakes will be done on Week 11 only. Failure to schedule retakes during then will result in the grade being cemented unless the person comes to me with a reasonable issue.
  • Lectures
    • There will be more videos, hands on activities, and more “impressions” to help you all with the material
    • There will be more questions being asked to check for understanding
    • There will be more checkpoints to see what our takeaways are from the corresponding chapters

Week 9 At A Glance

Here’s to a successful first quarter with the 8th Graders in US History! I am excited to see y’all’s potential as you consistently come into class each day with a new enthusiasm to learn. Here is what we will be doing for the last week of the quarter, with some key reminders below:

Monday, October 6th– No School

Tuesday, October 7th- Thursday, October 9th: We will participate in the Beginning of the Year Assessment. The idea behind this is to establish a starting point that I can measure throughout the quarters to identify areas where we need improvement and where we excel. I will not be taking the results as grades; however, I want every student to treat this like it is a mock STAAR test.

Friday, October 10th– Catch-Up Date. This is the last day to make any retakes or revisions to quizzes, assignments, or STAAR Blitzes.

Reminders

  • I have shared the STAAR Blitz Maps. Please make sure you have the retakes scheduled with me or sign up for the Flex Program.
  • If you did not finish the test on October 1st or you have yet to take the test, you will be spending that week trying to get the test made up. Reviews have been set up, so please be ready to take the test on Tuesday.
  • Please get the 0’s made up! I will still be pulling anyone who owes me work. Make my day easier by getting your missing work turned in as soon as possible!

  • The Chapter 5 STAAR Blitz must be completed before you walk into class. It will be 8 questions long, with 4 being terminology-based. I want you to work on this as independently as possible to ensure the “purity” of our progress in terms of STAAR question types and content area.

This week will be hectic, so please bear with me.

No weekly assignments, STAAR Blitzing, or Quizzes this week! XD

Overall I think we are at a good point in the year given the results of our STAAR Blitz Activities!

On Chapter 2 STAAR Blitz- We (as a class) achieved a Mastery Rank based on Spring’s Conversion chart. 79% vs. 73% (Score to be in Masters)

On Chapter 3 STAAR Blitz- We achieved a Meets Rank based with a 61%

Do not think of this as a definite daily activity as I designed the year to have the quizzes and weekly assignments outweigh the STAAR Blitz 2-1. Keep working on the reading guides and use them whenever possible, they serve to help you out!
